Designer Shoes: Jason Wu

Yes baby, it’s cold outside. But big-name designers have definitely turned up the temp with the sizzling hot shoes that hit their runways. From braided booties to strappy pumps, here are the shoes that stole the show (and our hearts).

Altuzarra
Some croc, Madame? Only Joseph Altuzarra can convince us on how over-the-knee boots with croc-effect leather, can artistically exhibit how aesthetics and practicality can really exist in footwear. With low block heels and neutral shades in black, navy or gray, we can see (and hopefully wear) these cropped and pony hair tall boots as one of fall 2016’s staples. And taking a detour from the reptile route, paisley-printed boots and ladder-strap pumps also graced the catwalk.

Derek Lam
Modern classicism ruled the Derek Lam runway. Low-heeled, lace-up stiletto booties redefine how fall footwear can be worn from day to night –maybe even forever? Our favorite –the high stacked heels cinched with a thin strap that wraps around the ankles –it’s badass and dainty at the same time. Other key, boot details include contrast piping and mesh cut-outs that complemented Lam’s luxe-minimalist sensibility.

Jason Wu
The Wu woman for Fall/Winter 2016 is refined, sexy, sophisticated and…comfortable! Velvet court shoes and kitten heels were paired elegantly with long leather coats and ultra-feminine black lace dresses. Classic slingbacks were updated with a chunky bow detail that wraps around the foot and heel–the perfect mix of strength and seduction. We think we’ve found our new work-to-play shoes!

Alexander-Wang-Fall-2016-Collection-New-York-Fashion-Week

Alexander Wang
It’s glam-goth in footwear. If punk princesses headed to the Upper East Side, these are the shoes they’ll be sporting. Wang complemented his marijuana leaf-decorated dresses with cap-toe-embellished combat boots, high-top sneakers, studded booties and creeper-soled Wallabees –all very stomp-worthy.

Prabal-Gurung-Fall-2016-Collection-New-York-Fashion-Week

Prabal Gurung
If a woman’s power was measured by the sharpness of her shoe, then the Prabal Gurung woman would be a superhero. Pointy ankle boots adorned with metallic silver toe caps were sleek and fierce. One of the shoe stand-outs was a pair of on-point (pun intended) below-the-knee leather boots in a stunning, midnight blue hue. However, the other strappy sandals with stiletto heels and sexy side cut-outs in laminated leather, are just as competent enough to stylishly save the day and rescue us from any sartorial rut.

Christian-Siriano-Fall-2016-Collection-New-York-Fashion-Week

Christian Siriano
Siriano shoes for Fall/Winter 2016 are a vibrant mix of texture, color and structure. Statement-making red and yellow, snake-stamped over-the-knee boots were given a playful touch with a thick plait that slithered from the top until the arches of the foot. It was a braid invasion –even stiletto heels and sandals were madeover with the feminine and flirty ropes.

About the author: Romina Tobias is a freelance fashion and lifestyle writer who is also a hopeless shoe-addict. She thinks her 5’4″ height and her love for long walks make her deserving of all the stilettos, pumps, sandals and ballet flats in the world. If only the cupcakes she expertly bakes can be traded in for a new pair (or two, or hopefully, more).

I wanted to get this post out last week but TIFF kicked my butt. I have such a soft spot for a good strappy shoe and NYFW did not disappoint. Manolo Blahnik had the most collaborations again this season, 20 total.

Highlights:
Brian Atwood designed his popular Evie open-toe pump in several yummy confectionary colors for Dennis Basso.
Gio Diev debuted his first collaboration with Sally LaPointe. The pumps were strong & sexy with a high-rise front, slightly padded straps & pinhole closures.
– I hope you like mules…they’re sky-high & sexy as ever. The standout designs were seen down the runway at both Altuzarra and Victoria Beckham.
Sophia Webster burst onto the scene with her debut collection last year. She has officially hit a whole new level and has already collaborated with J.Crew!

My favorites:
Cesare Casadei for Prabal Gurung is a brilliant match. This season we saw sexy slingback pumps with several thin straps wrapped around the heel.
Christian Louboutin for Marchesa‘s fairytale-inspired collection was extra dreamy & romantic with lace-up laser cut suede pumps.
Marissa Webb was my all-around favorite. Her slightly sporty pumps are wearable (4-4.5″ heel) and have the corset lace-up front which I’m crazy about.
– The super strappy pumps at Narcriso Rodriguez were another stand out, and this black & white snakeskin design is TDF.

Jaime King wore Jason Wu platform sandals to the opening night performance of the L.A. Dance Project. These heels are from the Spring 2012 collection featuring small leather knotted straps and a patent leather strap across the toe. Unfortunately this spring style is no longer available however you can shop Wu’s shoes online at Nordstrom and Net-A-Porter.

She looks stunning this Jason Wu sheer gown and I love the layered, satin-trimmed peplum. Jaime is definitely one of the best dressed celebrities of the week, right next to Ginnifer Goodwin’s Emmy look. Check out more shoes spotted on Jaime.

My favorite shoes heels so far at New York Fashion Week for Spring 2013: Casadei-for-Prabal-Gurung Credit: Elle | WWD | Style.com Casadei for Prabal Gurung I’ve been writing and focused on so many celebrity shoe posts recently that I missed Gurung’s show via live stream. I was really happy to hear about this collaboration, Cesare Casadei is one of my favorite shoe designers. These shoes feature patent leather, mesh, snakeskin and an acetate wedge with a degrade effect plus the signature steel blade insert. The sandal will retail for $1,000 and the pointed-toe style for $900. Gianvito-Rossi-Altuzarra-shoes-Spring-2013 Credit: Style.com Gianvito Rossi for Altuzarra Wow…are there even words?! This show was all about the shoes. If you can’t wait until next spring, I recommend grabbing these sandals as a filler. Although the knee-high versions are beautiful, the shorter style (ones we will actually, most likely see stocked at Barneys) are lovely. Manolo-Blahnik-for-Victoria-Beckham Credit: Wenn.com | Victoria Beckham Twitter | Manolo Blahnik Twitter | Style.com Manolo Blahnik for Victoria Beckham This collaboration surprised me…just a little. There were obvious clues as Victoria has been wearing the BB pump recently (even at the Olympic Closing Ceremony) and confessing her love for Blahnik’s shoes on Twitter. I don’t care for the monochrome brogues (not my style) however I do like the nude leather booties. The black leather bootie feels heavy for spring….don’t they looks like a cousin to the Tom Ford peep-toe boots Victoria was wearing around this spring/summer? I absolutely loved this colorful collection! The chain ankle-strap sandals remind me of Giambattista Valli’s sandals from the Spring 2012 collection. These pictures really don’t do the shoes justice however they’re the best we have right now. I will be uploading more as they become available. Credit: Style.com Jason Wu Especially after this fall’s beautiful brocade pumps, I have warmed up to Wu’s footwear. The designs don’t feel very spring/summer to me however I love the details. The pumps feature dotted mesh, pearl studded ankle-straps and crystal-embellished heels. These shoes are available online for pre-order at Nordstrom until September 17! Tabitha-Simmons-Peter-Som-shoes-Spring-2013 Credit: Vogue Tabitha Simmons for Peter Som This is such a colorful side of Simmons, it makes me happy! Every shoe features a metallic gold stiletto and several also have a gold cap-toe. There were blue & purple floral prints and there even a bit of lace. Donna-Karan-Spring-2013-shoes Donna-Karan-Spring-2013-sandal Credit: Vogue Donna Karan Before the close-up photos were available online, I liked the shoes but they weren’t as striking as others we’ve seen so far on the runway. However once I got a side view I swooned. They feature a carved lucite wedge, suede, leather, snakeskin with lots of knotted detailing and leather ankle-wraps. Rodarte-Spring-2013-shoes Credit: Vogue & Rodarte Rodarte-Spring-2013-shoes-boots Rodarte Rodarte collaborated with Nicholas Kirkwood for several seasons and then started designing their own shoes for the Fall 2011 collection (remember, the sand-filled heels?). For Spring 2013 Rodarte created colorful, armor-like sandals & booties. These futuristic shoes feature chunky heels, neoprene, mesh inserts and geometric shapes. They look like a hybrid of these Pierre Hardy + Vera Wang + Balenciaga + Alexander Wang shoes.

I haven’t counted up the Christian Louboutin collaborations yet however I’m pretty sure Blahnik had the most this season. I already posted about the collection he designed for Victoria Beckham (featured above) and he also created many more, I count 15 total. I love the double wrapped ankle-strap on the Rolando Santana sandals however the J. Mendel pumps were my favorite. Blahnik also designed flat sandals for Band of Outsiders.

Christian-Louboutin-Stephen-Burrows-Spring-2013

Christian Louboutin
This season Christian Louboutin collaborated with Jenny Packham, Marchesa, The Blonds and Stephen Burrows. The Bibi pump was created in new glitter colors for Packham and of course, very detailed, intricate designs graced Marchesa’s runway. My favorite was the crystal spiked boot at The Blonds. All other designs have debuted in previous collections.
