Early Forecast: Trends for Spring 2012

Last week at FFANY I was able to check out Pre-Spring/Spring 2012 collections from Jeffrey Campbell, L.A.M.B., Giuseppe Zanotti, Elizabeth & James, Betsey Johnson, Mark & James and more. I don’t have many pictures of these collections because several showrooms didn’t allow photos to be taken. I understand that timing is everything and I respect the discretion companies used when showing new designs.

I also learned that shoes are released to retailers on several different dates & multiple seasons (fall, spring, resort, pre-spring, pre-fall) throughout the year.

A few photos of my favorite Betsey Johnson designs:

Trends I noticed for Spring 2012:
Flatforms Spring 2011
Flatforms: The most famous ones from Spring 2011 were the foam espadrille’s by Prada. Next spring flatform’s take over. I’m not necessarily the biggest flatform fan yet, however, I know I will learn to love them since they will be everywhere.

Floral print: When I think floral printed heels, immediately Nicholas Kirkwood & Dries Van Noten come to mind. In Spring 2012 we will see floral print heels available in every price range.

Heel-less: Attention Lady Gaga fans, you will now be able to find heel-less shoes and they’ll cost a lot less than the Noritaka Tatehana & Nina Ricci designs she has worn. At one companies show booth I asked to take a picture of a new killer heel-less shoe and the response was : “No, it’s going to be one of our most popular designs!”.

Wedge slice: This is where a small slice of the wedge is cut-out while the whole sole is still intact. During FFANY I noticed this technique used by several designers.

Super brights: The color of shoes are much brighter than the heels from Spring 2011 – think neon and highlighter shades.

*These pictures are not Spring 2012 designs, just example of styles I mention as continuing trends*
