This season we saw an interesting variety of shoes strut down the catwalk in London. Manolo Blahnik had the greatest number of collaborations (just like at NYFW) followed by Christian Louboutin, Nicholas Kirkwood, Charlotte Olympia, Bionda Castana (for Fyodor Goland) and Desirée Barroso (for Emilio de la Morena).

Designs I liked: Mary Katrantzou pumps with a lush velvet wide strap, Michael van der Ham pin heel pumps and Erdem brogue heels featuring an oversized western style buckled ankle-strap.

Not surprisingly, Tom Ford wins for the most elaborate & embellished designs. There were several different colors of suede knee-high peep-toe boots completely covered with sequin floral embroidery.

Rodarte – Spring 2011 | New York Fashion Week

Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte Spring 2011

Nicholas Kirkwood brings Rodarte’s collections to a whole new level. He’s been creating shoes for Rodarte since spring/summer 2009. Rodarte’s “seventies suburbia” spring 2011 inspiration was accented with Kirkwood’s super-sculptural gold platforms. The platform wedges are hand carved from wood featuring butterflies and flower shapes.

Prabal Gurung – Spring 2011 | New York Fashion Week

Nicholas Kirkwood for Prabal Gurung Spring 2011

This was Nicholas Kirkwood’s first collection with Prabal Gurung. These striking stilettos complimented Prabal’s graphic collection. The designs feature mixed textures such as leather and latex in 5 bold color combinations in shades of black, white, sand and coral. The 5 latex straps that wrap around the ankle were influenced by African tribal necklaces.

Nicholas Kirkwood for the Pollini Forward Designer Project:

Louise Gray, Pollini/Kirkwood – Spring 2011 | London Fashion Week

Nicholas Kirkwood Pollini for Louise Gray Spring 2011

Nicholas Kirkwood was appointed creative director for Pollini and recently just launched the Pollini Forward Designer Project which collaborates with 5 designers. One of the collaborations was with designer Louise Gray.

Louise Gray’s collection was described as crafty, colorful and tribal. The shoes featured bright plastic uppers and scalloped tractor-like rubber soles; a Pollini signature.

Preen Pollini/Kirkwood – Spring 2011 | London Fashion Week

Nicholas Kirkwood Pollini for Preen Spring 2011

The Pollini and Preen collaboration was also apart of Kirkwood’s Pollini Forward Designer Project. Preen’s collection was inspired by a trip to Egypt and the shoes were delicate featuring minimalistic sandals and mesh booties.

Michael van de Ham – Spring 2011 | London Fashion Week

Michael van de Ham Pollini Spring 2010

Michael van de Ham’s spring 2011 collection was all about texture. Pollini’s use of leather and summery velvet for the shoes was a perfect compliment. The heels feature both leather and velvet with chunky laces tied in a large knot.

Meedham Kirchhoff – Spring 2011 | London Fashion Week

Pollini for Meadham Kirchhoff Spring 2011

From the stage to the accessories and even the shoes – everything was embellished. The shoes were decorated with beading and sequins on top of a sparkled base with black or blue piping. The cutout sandals featured a small platform with chunk heel.
