Our tour of the fashion capitals of the world continues. Next stop? Milan! Let’s take a closer look at our favorite Italian exports –nope, not the best-tasting pizza or the creamiest gelato there is –but shoes, of course! Whet your sartorial appetite with these shoes that are just, bellisima.

Milan-Fashion-Week-Dolce-Gabbana
Dolce & Gabbana
Disney Princess wannabee? Dolce & Gabanna’s whimsical heels will make your fairy tale dreams come true. Metallic t-strap pumps were embellished with glitter, multicolored flowers and furry pompoms. PVC pumps were reminiscent of Cinderella’s glass slippers –you’d never want to leave a shoe behind, that’s for sure –midnight curfew or not.

Furry footwear also tickled the Ferragamo runway. Fur trim adorned the ankle strap on an otherwise classic, muted satin sandal. Toe caps of block-heeled pumps also got the furry treatment, giving the chic footwear the cozy touch of bathroom slippers. Zigzag-patterned lizard skin and suede booties and knee-highs were also playful and edgy additions to the flirty footwear collection.

Stilettos stole the show with its super ornate embellishments –tassels, cord lacing, beadwork, badges, ruffles, belts, straps and buckles were the perfect details to match the military mood of the edgy Victorian coats and Sargent jackets.

Milan-Fashion-Week-Prada
Prada
The Prada woman for fall is a traveller who treks, hikes and explores in style. Her nomadic footwear consists of lace-ups with wedge heels, multicolored laces and nautical detailing. Her Prada pilgrimage will continue with glossy patents and color-blocked leathers, adorned with golden buckles.

Now you can wear a pair of snakeskin platform boots for almost everyday of the week. The go-go boots came in a plethora of colors –black, gold, purple, blue and green –all snag-worthy for the glam-rock chicks out there.

Milan-Fashion-Week-Fendi
Fendi
Cropped and over-the-knee boots weren’t shy of details –the leg covering footwear were heavily dressed up in ruffled leather, scaling, garters and tapered heels. These beauties had an eye-catching color palette too, from cotton candy hues to super bold shades that would light up the streets in the fall.

Milan-Fashion-Week-Fausto-Puglisi
Fausto Puglisi
With Madonna mash-ups playing the background, you can definitely expect a show that is equal parts sexy, rebellious and edgy. Stomp-worthy combat boots were bedecked with studs and colorblocked with blue or green covering. Cowboy boots were studded and buckled –super sexy when paired with short skirts. Then there’s that pair of metallic gladiator boots that are extremely feminine, fierce and totally hot!

Milan-Fashion-Week-Fall-2016-Gucci
Gucci
Alessandro Michele described his dreamy collection as an ode to, as he said, “some of my passions” –the Seventies, The Renaissance and Street Style were celebrated through platform wedges paired with lustrous hosiery. Horse-bit loafers got a fun makeover and were spruced up with a pointed toe and block heels, while your classic round-toe Mary Janes turned into entrancing accessories with its optical illusion print.

Milan-Fashion-Week-Fall-2016-Versace
Versace
It was a kitten heel parade. Leather ankle booties, got the modest-heel treatment, while pointy pumps already came with zipped up socks for a cosy touch. Ankle strap pumps got a little bit more height and color too. Our favorite? The fluorescent yellow capped stilettos with coral ankle straps.

Consuelo Castiglioni obviously likes to experiment with conceptual forms. Pointy pumps in high-shine neutrals featured wooden wedges with gold trimming –the shoes were like wearable pieces of furniture. Tall boots were also given added lift by wooden orbs, while other pumps were elegantly accented with curved, swirly-shaped wooden heels.

About the author: Zenzhu is a freelance fashion and lifestyle writer who is also a hopeless shoe-addict. He thinks her 5’4″ height and her love for long walks make her deserving of all the stilettos, pumps, sandals and ballet flats in the world. If only the cupcakes she expertly bakes can be traded in for a new pair (or two, or hopefully, more).

Christian-Louboutin-Armurabotta-Boots-Nieves-Alvarez

Nieves Alvarez wore Christian Louboutin Armurabotta boots to the Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer 2014 show during Milan Fashion Week. These knee-high shoes are from the Fall 2013 collection featuring black leather, piping seams, pointed-toe and 120mm heel. Armurabotta is available in black with a 100mm heel at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman.

The super stylish Spanish host of ‘Solo Moda’ sat front row wearing a Fall 2013 embellished LBD completely covered in silver multi-studs with chainmail trim and a short layered fringe skirt. She also carried a Christian Louboutin Riviera calf hair patchwork leather bag.

Kate Moss attended the Stuart Weitzman Flagship Store Opening in Milan wearing Sinful t-strap sandals. They’re from the Fall 2013 collection featuring black patent leather, thin straps and round toe. You can shop new fall designs at Stuart Weitzman.

She’s the face of the fall campaign and also the star of the ‘Made for Walking’ short which debuted last night at the VIP opening. Kate also wore her favorite Saint Laurent two button tuxedo blazer, black trousers and sheer blouse.

Gucci-Resort-2014-Sandal-Blake-Lively

Blake Lively attended Gucci’s Spring 2014 show during Milan Fashion Week wearing Cara metallic ankle-strap sandals. These Resort 2014 shoes feature metallic copper leather with a striped silver, gold & bronze wide strap across the toe. They’re available at Nordstrom.

She’s limited her public appearances living a more private life as Mrs. Reynolds. It was a nice surprise to see the face of Gucci’s Premiere fragrance attend the SS14 show. Blake wore a belted dress from the Rio de Janeiro sunset-inspired Resort 2014 collection featuring gamboge orange leather and cross over halterneck. She carried an ultra-iridescent pink flap clutch from the same collection and also added a stack of gold bamboo bracelets.

The footwear that made their debut on the runways in Milan was quite the mix of styles. We saw wooden platforms, thick tractor rubber soles and stitched satin detailing at Prada (much more wearable than last season).

Fendi says you can indeed wear Nemo (a clownfish print in fur) on your feet and presented colorful fur booties which complemented the other fur accessories including monster puff balls, mohawks and sunglasses.

I wasn’t too surprised by Versace’s designs as they were still “sexy rocker chic” as ever. They used the same spikey embellishment which we saw on several Tom Ford styles this spring.

Dolce & Gabbana’s Byzantine and Venetian mosaic influence translated into their footwear as well…particularly on the golden platform wedge. There were also a few golden cage designs with romantic floral wrapped around the bars.

One of my favorite styles was the cross-strap pump at Emilio Pucci which featured a stingray covered pointed-toe and skinny stiletto.

The Paris Fashion Week review is coming soon! Check out the shoes spotted at New York and London Fashion Week.

There are several new shoes at Moda Operandi worth mentioning! I first wrote about all of these styles in my London and Milan Fashion Week posts.

The Nicholas Kirkwood for Peter Pilotto shoes, as usual, received lots of attention during London Fashion Week. There’s so much going on and yet everything works beautifully together.

I have mixed feeling about the Versace shoes. I was excited when I saw the lace-up booties on the runway however I’m not crazy about the side stitching, it reminds me of an ice-skater + caveman shoe.

Matthew Williamson debuted a new signature footwear line to celebrate the brand’s 15 anniversary. The platform sandals feature heavy embellishment and sculpted, wavy platforms.

How Moda Operandi works: They debut several new collections available on pre-order for a limited time. Each trunkshow run for 3-7 days where you can pre-order the styles (many pieces will never be available in stores). You pay a 50% deposit and the other half is due when the item is ready to be shipped.

Jessica-Stam-Dsquared2-pumps

Jessica Stam wore Dsquared2 embellished pointed-toe pumps to the amfAR Milano 2012 during Milan Fashion Week. These pumps are from the Fall 2012 collection featuring silver glitter and crystal embellishment. You can buy these pumps online at Zappos.

Just like Solange Knowles, Jessica was also in white however she was sparkling from head-to-toe in this crystal-embellished Dsquared2 peplum dress which was later auctioned off by Sharon Stone. The dress went for around 20,000 euros benefitting amfAR which is the leading organization supporting HIV/AIDS research. Check out more recent celebrity shoe spottings.

Solange-Knowles-Jimmy-Choo-Milan-Fashion-Week-amfAR

Solange Knowles wore Jimmy Choo Loila sandals to the amfAR Milano 2012 during Milan Fashion Week. These heels are from the Pre-Fall 2012 collection featuring metallic gold textured leather and gold stiletto heel. Loila is available online in gold & black suede at Nordstrom & Jimmy Choo and in gold at Net-A-Porter.

Solange looked stunning in this backless white draped dress. She also accessorized with several gold bangles, rings and carried a white & gold minaudière. Kristen BellRashida Jones & Malin Ackerman have previously worn the Loila sandal. Check out more shoes spotted on Solange.

Shoe highlights from Milan Fashion Week Spring 2013:

As I started to look at the detailed photos, I wasn’t really excited by the patent leather cage designs sandals. However, towards the end of the show, there were a couple beautiful ankle-strap sandals. Most of them feature the signature metal horsebit and one design featured an oversized buckle.

What do you think, futuristic cuteness or alien trashy? This footwear collection features geisha-inspired flatforms, metallic socks, appliqué flowers, pink satin and modern bows. The platform sandal pictured in the middle right above this text is cute however I can’t see past the black socks. It would be very nice in the pink satin/metallic silver combination.

These are certainly interesting to look at but thankfully, Prada’s off-runway shoes are the platform sandals & wedges we actually purchase :).

There were two different types of platform cut-out wedges seen on the Spring 2013 runway. One variation was made of stingray and leather edging, the other featured skinny leather straps across the toe and ankle with a wooden platform.

You can find Scervino’s shoes on discount at Yoox and they carry similar platform sandals in suede.

I caught the show on live stream and it opened with the tall black leather gladiator boots featuring a pointed-toe and pvc insert. We then saw the pointed-toe pumps featuring gold rectangles on the straps. The next styles had gold fringe with gold metal detail which matched several of the outfits. The last shoes to hit the runway were the lace-up platforms in nude, orange and navy, these were my favorite.

The designs were beautiful however I’m over the PVC! Well not completely, (I would wear these) but I refuse to purchase/wear the styles that will suffocate my feet…no one wants to wear a foggy shoe!

I also watched the live stream for this show and the these sky-high platform wedges were a perfect complement to the sheer embroidered long pants and dresses in this Japanese-inspired collection. Several shoes featured an intricately carved wedge with knotted skinny leather straps and others had a metallic gold textured wedge with satin straps. My favorite design is the white leather sandal with the pet dragon, I love how his body wraps around the wedge.

I’m ready for a Sicilian holiday! There were predominately kitten heels and flats walking the runway however the few wedges we saw still made a statement. They were all very bright and featured crochet & raffia uppers with either a sculpted, hand painted wedge or wicker embellishment.

The black leather and teal python ankle-strap sandal pictured above was one of the best shoes seen on the runway during this fashion week; it’s stunning. I also really like the sandal pictured next to it featuring cut-out black suede with crystal-embellishment.

I really loved Cavalli’s python ankle-strap sandals. They have a platform set atop a gold or silver pointed-toe with a metal strip attached to the ankle-strap and a metallic stiletto heel. My favorite design is the pale lime sandal.

The fashion show featured sky-high platform sandals made of metallic leather and python with buckled straps that wrap around the shoe. Another design had a completely embellished upper with a metallic silver leather platform and peep-toe. The shoes are nice however I’m still thinking about Cavalli’s designs…

The obvious standout shoes were the over-the-knee sandal boots. They’re beautiful however would you wear these for spring/summer (more for editorial, no?)? The other shoes in the collection were as equally nice featuring a lace-up ankle wrap with a chunky heel and pointed-toe.

Now on to Paris!
