When warmer climates arrive, the boots get stored away and cheery sandals (strappier the better) come out to play. I love a classic court shoe but the brighter & more playful spring shoes are always my favorites.

Style.com’s Spring 2014 Accessories Index was just released and market director Marina Larroudé reveals the news on shoes spotlighting 10 standout styles. Her selections focus on several upcoming footwear trends including mules, sporty sandals and kitten-heel pumps.

I’ve named Isabel Marant’s latest creation the moccanstock since they’re a hybrid of a moccasin combined with a Birkenstock-style footbed. Gianvito Rossi solidified the spotlight again this season with his super sexy mules – which he also designed for Altuzarra.

Sporty shoes covered the runways at Milan Fashion Week and the most obvious example of this trend is Prada’s athletic-inspired heels featuring thick rubber bumpers. My favorite choice from Larroudé’s list is Tabitha Simmons super strappy pump in white leather; I imagine these look amazing on the foot.

My top picks:
As usual, my selections are all about the heels and this season they’re especially different from the editor’s picks. I can never pass up a hot shoe! There were so many styles pulling at my heartstrings, it was difficult narrowing this down to 10.

Gianvito Rossi is the “master of the mule” and I love the mirrored leather combined with black python. Fendi’s silicone sandals are architecturally amazing and check out the industrial caged “double heels”. I adore Charlotte Olympia’s “Overboard” sea-inspired collection and yes, those are upside down mermaid heels! Diego Dolcini’s strappy sandal is a signature style redesigned in a trendy violet tulip neoprene and captivating shade of indigo.

Noticeable Spring/Summer 2013 shoe trends:

This reflective technique was the first trend I noticed. Designers have used it on both snakeskin and patent leather. It’s also seen in Dior and Pierre Hardy’s collections (not pictured).

Stella McCartney seems to be one step ahead & if you can’t wait until spring, she designed a faux-leather iridescent pump available at Bergdorf Goodman.

Mixed Media Madness
There are several obvious examples of this mixed media trend and I chose designs featuring 3 or more different materials. The styles below are colorful and show the designers’ playful side.

For me, the combination of different textures & colors is a hit-or-miss. Christian Louboutin uses mixed media wildly throughout his collection.

I love embroidered details, they give a fun, special touch. Barbara Bui and Balmain have several styles completely embroidered whereas Rupert Sanderson & Isa Tapia feature parts of the shoe embroidered with tropical birds.

Colorful Lace

Looking through Style.com’s Accessories Index I’ve spotted several orangey tones. Then I saw nectarine listed on the Pantone Spring 2013 Fashion Color Report which has also migrated to footwear. Nectarine has a warm coral touch and is also a skin flattering tone.

Anna Kendrick wore Rebecca Minkoff Dante boots to the Mr. Pink’s Ginseng Energy Drink launch in LA. They’re from the Fall 2012 collection featuring black suede and asymmetrical snakeskin insert which wraps around the front. Dante is available online in black and brown at Nordstrom, brown at Saks Fifth Avenue, tan at Footcandy and in black & tan at Rebecca Minkoff.

Anna posed for photographers on the pink carpet wearing dark denim jeans and a white sheer blouse worn under a navy jacket with black trim. Since she has a fair skin tone (very similar to mine), a brighter lip color and darker brows helped her not look completely washed out under the camera’s lights. Anna also carried a black patent leather bag with gold chain detail.

These might her new favorite boots – she just wore on the red carpet yesterday at a Target event. Check out more shoes spotted on Anna.
