Designer Shoes: Proenza Schouler

This season many footwear designers and brands, from Nicholas Kirkwood to Valentino, retired the celeb-favorite pin thin stiletto opting for the return of a chunky, block heel. This trendy shape is 70s infused with a hint of modern bohemian glamour that would make Bianca Jagger proud.

We pulled 10 fabulous examples of this trend now at retail…I guess the question is: will you be swapping your skinny summer-ready stilettos for this blocky silhouette?

Proenza Schouler black & white pump | 110mm heel | shop at Shoescribe for $645.00

These shoes were presented down the runway at the Fall 2013 show. They feature a slightly curved heel, white matte leather, cutout black padded leather front and black leather insole. It’s available in whole sizes only. This shoe is selling fast but Saks Fifth Avenue carries two similar styles from the same collection.

Proenza Schouler petrol ankle-strap pump | 4″ heel | available at Zappos for $695.00, or with a 110mm heel at Saks Fifth Avenue

These oil slick iridescent patent leather pumps feature a wide black rubber band at the front, d’Orsay design, thin adjustable ankle-strap, sleek tapered toe and black leather insole. Another plus, the two heel heights (100mm or 110mm) are both completely walkable. Half sizes are available.

Kirsten Dunst wore Proenza Schouler d’Orsay pumps to the 2013 GLAAD Media Awards. These shoes are from the Fall 2013 collection featuring smooth black leather, curved heel and pointed-toe.

This sexy three quarter sleeve lace paneled dress by Emilio Pucci was a surprising choice given she’s usually wearing Chloé, Proenza Schouler or Rodarte. Kirsten’s quirky style was still apparent as she added a black satin headband giving the whole look a 60s mod feel.

She also wore these pumps in yellow leather to a premiere last month.

Emma Watson wore Proenza Schouler sandal booties to the 2013 MTV Movie Awards. These heels are from the Spring 2013 collection featuring black cord laces, geometric heel and island platform. You can find them available online in light grey lizard at The Corner.

A geometric print mini dress paired with a sandal bootie has been her red carpet go-to look. This cute little number is by Maxime Simoëns with a cut-out neckline. Emma’s hair was pulled back in a loose chignon and she accessorized with two Jennifer Meyer thin silver rings.

Proenza Schouler two-tone pump | 4.5 inch heel | buy online at Forward by Elyse Walker for $595.00

This style was first seen in the Pre-Fall 2012 collection and spotted on Victoria Beckham, Cheryl Cole and Kate Bosworth. It was continued this spring and redesigned in a beautiful two-tone leather combination. They feature an oversized cap-toe, smooth nude leather and black patent leather. Half sizes are available.

You can also available find it in black leather/patent leather at Edon Manor & FarFetch for $595.00

Taylor Swift is featured in the March 2013 issue of ELLE wearing Proenza Schouler platform sandals. These heels are from the Spring 2013 collection featuring metallic silver patent leather, sculpted heel and chain-embellished straps.

She posed wearing a printed double-face satin dress embellished with grommets and pink dots which was the last look from Proenza Schouler’s Spring 2013 collection. Taylor wore several other unexpected looks in this shoot including an Alexander McQueen beekeeper headpiece.

Beyoncé Knowles performed during the 2013 Super Bowl half time show wearing Proenza Schouler lace-up booties. This style debuted in the Fall 2010 collection featuring pebbled leather, square toe and tapered heel. Surprisingly enough, you can still find this style available online (on sale!) at Yoox.

These shoes were one of Olivia Palermo’s favorite booties a couple years ago and we’ve also spotted them on Chloë Sevigny. For me, this style was forever tainted after Katie Holmes wore them to the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

I was surprised by Beyoncés shoe choice…I would have loved to see her wear a custom Stuart Weitzman shoe or Versace bootie. Her Destiny’s Child band mates, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland also wore the same boots.

Check out her performance and more shoes spotted on Beyoncé.
