Designer Shoes: Slingback

Tom-Ford-shoes

They’re not only called “dance shoes” because you wear them while you bust a move to your jam, but they can also earn that description when just getting a glimpse of the pair literally invigorates you to do a happy dance. Whether you’re on a dance floor or not, you’d love to get your feet into Tom Ford’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection as it hits refresh on disco-glam footwear.

Discover fun, feminine and opulent shoes but with a punkier aesthetic in the form of metallic printed croc, cool cut-outs, spike heels and sexy pleats. The brazen collection boasts of a color scheme befitting of a woman ready to conquer the world, but with an unapologetic need to party. Yellow, silver, light pink, fuchsia, and gold are paired with glitzy metals and hair-calf prints, resulting in statement shoes that would make for an unforgettable spring and summer sartorial season.

The Hand Painted Open Back Ankle Strap Pumps meet the criteria of a power shoe –a sharp, pointed toe, a low spike heel, a striking animal print glistening in gold and fuchsia metals plus ankle and back straps are the perfect combination of sassy and sexy, commanding and seductive.

We may have a longstanding love affair with classic pumps, but Tom Ford’s twist on the staple shoe has gotten as wanting to play footsie (literally and figuratively) with the Metallic Printed Croc Cut-Out Heel Pumps. In stunning silver, gold and light pink, these babies would look ultra-sleek when worn with cropped pants or to jazz up a little black dress. The low spike heel creates a voluptuous curve, creating a sexy silhouette despite its shortage in height.

And despite our love for color, black will always hold a special space in our shoe-obsessed hearts. The calf leather Frayed Satin Spike Heel Pump with its unravelled detailing lends a lovely contrast to the gold spike heel –perfect for a day-to-night shoe. The Pleated Wrap Sandal is perhaps our favorite –the wrap-around effect of the pleated viscose and seta fabrics along with the architectural block heel will definitely add extra s spring to our step (pun intended) this season.

When London (fashion week) calls, we put everything else on hold and marvel at the sartorial splendour that the British runways have to offer. And it definitely was London-love at first sight with all the stunning shoes!

With “poetry groupie” as their muse, designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi fused romanticism with glam grunge. Black Victorian lace-up boots were the perfect punctuations to the moody floral dresses. Over-the-knee and ankle boots wrapped in bows are absolutely the most awesome presents to own this fall.

London-Fashion-Week-Fall-2016-House-of-Holland
House of Holland
With a throwback to the seventies and twenties, you can expect lots of color –that’s for sure. Henry Holland dressed his models in punk-rock shoes ready to hit the dance floor. The disco-appropriate boots literally captured the vibrancy of the ultra-cool decades with shimmery metals matched with super-saturated orange and fuchsia, paired with cheetah and zebra prints.

JW Anderson
Shoes were mini sculptures at the Anderson runway. The plethora of colors and textures turned the accessories into show stopping artworks. Kitten heel booties were sharp, and had a fun, modern twist with its translucent PVC and silver and black crystal-detailing. Our favorite would be the square-toed mules embellished with shiny multicolored scales.

When you’ve got sparkly, leg-baring dresses to wear, you’ll need the perfect shoes to showcase your pins. Take cue from the Macdonald runway and pair your thigh-skimming frocks with ladder-style, open-toe boots fastened with buckles, or simple yet ultra-chic ankle-strap stilettos in that neutral nude hue we absolutely adore.

If moto jackets are the hottest toppers this season, Christopher Bailey created the most fitting “moto boot” to complement them with. The edgy boots with a low-heel carried a statement-making pilgrim buckle that accented the python print. Other boot details include brocade, studs and kilties.

The femme fatale who is dressed in a neck collar and velvet bodice with corset lacing will off course need a pair of bondage boots. Case in point: Pointy booties with side cut-outs and an ankle strap, or boots with high-shine leather and side buckles will help unleash your inner dominatrix.

London-Fashion-Week-Fall-2016-Alexander-McQueen
Alexander McQueen
Expect to fashionably embrace your femininity this fall courtesy of Sarah Burton. Ankle-strap stilettos lined with fur, and sandals adorned with crystals and ostrich feathers that gracefully billowed down the runway will make all of us a little bit more flirtatious in the fall.

London-Fashion-Week-Fall-2016-Mulberry
Mulberry
Johnny Coca presented a very hip alternative to fall footwear. If ballet slippers were to get a hefty dose of heel, then you’ve got these Mulberry platform heels with punchy, yellow and orange supersized satin lacing. Mid-calf boots also with platform heels were color-blocked in black, white or maroon, and proved to be sleek, modern and very wearable too.

Giannico-Spring-2016Set up the margarita station, bring out the donut pool floats, slip on your tiny bikini, lather up with sunscreen and turn up the reggae beats because it’s summer! At least that’s what the Giannico Spring/Summer 2016 Collection is celebrating.

The Eternal Summer Collection is inspired by cocktail-sipping under an umbrella in Hotel Martinez in Cannes, taking a dip in the Beverly Hills Hotel pool or super stylish Jackie O walking down the picturesque streets of Capri. Giannico’s collection is definitely packed with happy sunshine.

The vibrant color palette perfectly captures the electrifying spirit of the season. From zippy shades of yellow, orange and fuchsia, to refreshing sorbet hues of sky blue and baby pink, prep yourselves for an unforgettably dreamy summer. Created by the talented young designer Nicolò Beretta (born in Milan in 1996), the line really does capture his unabashed enthusiasm for color and style, with a hint of romanticism.

Reminiscent of beach umbrellas, white and yellow striped-prints decorate the eye-catching sandals and stilettos, while the tropical print of banana leaves gives mules, sandals and boots its summer stamp. The Marina flats and pumps in nautical blue are fun and flirty with its tiny bow or little bouquet of pastel-colored flowers crafted from vintage swimGiannico-shoes-Summer-2016 caps. There’s also a pop of animal print here and there, fiercely adorning the cap of a wedge sandal or the platform of a block heel pump.

One of our favorite twists on the summer shoe is the Super Lola. Your classic nude pumps just got some summer lovin’. The 110mm-heels with quilted velvet insoles get peppered with patent leather fuchsia kisses. Mwah!

The Lolita pointed-toe ballet flats are like shiny pink gumballs you’d love to wear with a sundress. They will definitely be a sweet and cheery addition to any shoe collection.

We can’t neglect the fact that there are summer nights too. When the sun sets and the large moon and sparkling stars transform into a disco ball with surrounding twinkling lights, dance to the rhythm of summer in a sexy pair of Madison open toe pumps in midnight black accented with a cheetah print heel.

Cheers to summer and fabulous pairs of shoes to celebrate with!

Liudmila-Spring-2016-Collection-HeelOnce you get your hands…errr…we mean your feet rather, into these shoes, prepare to immediately group message your girlfriends because you’d want to party plan, stat. But not just any party. You’d want a fancy soiree that screams Alice in Wonderland, Marie Antoinette, fairy tale balls, English gardens, quirky hats, parasols and sipping tea with pinkies in the air –that’s how whimsical the collection is. And don’t be embarrassed if you suddenly want to conjure up a butler who announces: “Your carriage awaits, Madam.”

Liudmila founder Najeeba was inspired by photos of the Nizams of Hyderabad –the Indian rulers of the Mughal Empire. Even if they were just re-touched photographs, she was captivated by the images of the abandoned palaces and perhaps, imagined all the exciting events that took place in such magnificent party playgrounds. Najeeba then created a color palette that seemingly paints the story of royals who were always ready to celebrate. Pearlescent leather in jewel and candy-like hues such as pink, purple, baby blue, silver and ivory –all exude opulence that is eminently approachable.

Najeeba ensures that her heels never go above 100 mm because she believes shoes should enhance and not hinder your life. But where it lacks in height, it makes up for statement-making style.

Liudmila-Spring-2016-Collection-Heel

Channel your inner Disney Princess when you slip into the Mame ankle- strap sandals in periwinkle or blush suede, adorned with a chunky crystal and ostrich feathers. Or shoe gems like the Sari –curved platform wedges in amethyst or bubblegum pink satin, with gold or silver tassels you can tie around your ankles or up your calf –for the warrior princesses out there, perhaps? The delicately-sloped Piali kitten heels in gold or silver nappa are charmingly tied with floral-printed bows –like little presents for playful ballerinas.

And if princesses were to saddle up their horses, there’s the Juba short boot with a 50 mm heel, a dainty lilac pearl color and a fun cut-out design at the front. Not that you’ll need any mode of transportation, really. These fantastic shoes were made for walking (you’d want to find opportunities to flaunt them all the time, anyway).

Who needs Prince Charming when you can get your happy ever after with these precious shoes?

Yes baby, it’s cold outside. But big-name designers have definitely turned up the temp with the sizzling hot shoes that hit their runways. From braided booties to strappy pumps, here are the shoes that stole the show (and our hearts).

Altuzarra-Fall-2016-Collection-New-York-Fashion-Week

Altuzarra
Some croc, Madame? Only Joseph Altuzarra can convince us on how over-the-knee boots with croc-effect leather, can artistically exhibit how aesthetics and practicality can really exist in footwear. With low block heels and neutral shades in black, navy or gray, we can see (and hopefully wear) these cropped and pony hair tall boots as one of fall 2016’s staples. And taking a detour from the reptile route, paisley-printed boots and ladder-strap pumps also graced the catwalk.

Derek-Lam-Fall-2016-New-York-Fashion-Week
Derek-Lam-Fall-2016-Collection-New-York-Fashion-Week

Derek Lam
Modern classicism ruled the Derek Lam runway. Low-heeled, lace-up stiletto booties redefine how fall footwear can be worn from day to night –maybe even forever? Our favorite –the high stacked heels cinched with a thin strap that wraps around the ankles –it’s badass and dainty at the same time. Other key, boot details include contrast piping and mesh cut-outs that complemented Lam’s luxe-minimalist sensibility.

Jason Wu
The Wu woman for Fall/Winter 2016 is refined, sexy, sophisticated and…comfortable! Velvet court shoes and kitten heels were paired elegantly with long leather coats and ultra-feminine black lace dresses. Classic slingbacks were updated with a chunky bow detail that wraps around the foot and heel–the perfect mix of strength and seduction. We think we’ve found our new work-to-play shoes!

Alexander-Wang-Fall-2016-Collection-New-York-Fashion-Week

Alexander Wang
It’s glam-goth in footwear. If punk princesses headed to the Upper East Side, these are the shoes they’ll be sporting. Wang complemented his marijuana leaf-decorated dresses with cap-toe-embellished combat boots, high-top sneakers, studded booties and creeper-soled Wallabees –all very stomp-worthy.

Prabal-Gurung-Fall-2016-Collection-New-York-Fashion-Week

Prabal Gurung
If a woman’s power was measured by the sharpness of her shoe, then the Prabal Gurung woman would be a superhero. Pointy ankle boots adorned with metallic silver toe caps were sleek and fierce. One of the shoe stand-outs was a pair of on-point (pun intended) below-the-knee leather boots in a stunning, midnight blue hue. However, the other strappy sandals with stiletto heels and sexy side cut-outs in laminated leather, are just as competent enough to stylishly save the day and rescue us from any sartorial rut.

Christian-Siriano-Fall-2016-Collection-New-York-Fashion-Week

Christian Siriano
Siriano shoes for Fall/Winter 2016 are a vibrant mix of texture, color and structure. Statement-making red and yellow, snake-stamped over-the-knee boots were given a playful touch with a thick plait that slithered from the top until the arches of the foot. It was a braid invasion –even stiletto heels and sandals were madeover with the feminine and flirty ropes.

After teaming up on a limited-edition book benefitting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society last year, the playful footwear designer and instafamous fashion illustrator Donald “Drawbertson” Robertson’s collaboration doesn’t stop there. They’ve also released several of Atwood’s signature styles featuring Donald’s iconic Pop Art lip print on white canvas from the latest Spring 2015 collection.

Miley Cyrus is a big fan of this quirky collab – we’ve spotted her wearing the Lallie mules and Karin sandals.

Beyoncé attended the 2014 Billboard Women in Music Luncheon wearing a merlot knotted draped dress by Haute Hippie with a thigh-high side slit. She paired it with Gucci horsebit-embellished Claudie ankle-strap sandals in brown leather. These chunky 70s’-inspired platforms don’t do anything for her outfit…and they feel out of place.
