Designer Shoes: Pierre Hardy

Pierre Hardy ankle-strap sandals | 100mm/4″ heel | shop in orange and blue at Matches

These eye-catching sandals pack the punch this season –  and I bet we will see them adorned on editor’s feet during this month of fashion shows. French accessories designer Pierre Hardy created the ‘Vibration’ sandal in two variations, orange & blue featuring a harmonious blend of colors in marble-effect suede. It’s accented with a striking black suede trim, thin wrap-around ankle strap, signature black sole and thick front toe strap. I like each color equally, don’t make me pick a favorite. Half sizes are available.

Even more obvious than the painted cork trend, denim footwear is impossible to overlook this spring. From shoe maestro Blahnik to pacesetter , the industry brings us a playful spin on the classic jean twill.

From pumps to sandals, platforms to stilettos – each designer created a unique styles inspired by the blue Americana staple. Not only is denim is a reliable fabric perfect for everyday wear but it’s also an interestingly stylish shoe textile.

I particularly love Gianvito Rossi’s take, adding several denim designs to his spring collection which features a dark wash exaggerated with frayed patches. Both Fendi and Christian Louboutin combined a lighter shade with tropical floral printed leather. Jimmy Choo carries the most amount of denim styles this season adding a sleek contrasting black leather trim to several styles.

This season many footwear designers and brands, from Nicholas Kirkwood to Valentino, retired the celeb-favorite pin thin stiletto opting for the return of a chunky, block heel. This trendy shape is 70s infused with a hint of modern bohemian glamour that would make Bianca Jagger proud.

We pulled 10 fabulous examples of this trend now at retail…I guess the question is: will you be swapping your skinny summer-ready stilettos for this blocky silhouette?

Pierre Hardy cut-out suede, leather & snakeskin sandals | 120mm/4.8″ heel | shop at The Corner for $1,175

These Spring 2014 shoes are an artistic spin on the staple summer gladiator sandal while showcasing Pierre Hardy’s sleek & graphic design esthetic. They combine wavy straps of black & white striped elaphe snakeskin, ice-blue matte leather, peach suede, mirrored silver leather and pale lemon suede. I love the black patent leather covered hourglass-shaped heel and they also feature a double buckled ankle strap, small asymmetric cut peep-toe and round toe.

This style is only available in whole sizes and you also find it in metallic brushed snakeskin at ShoeScribe.

Radiant-Orchid-PantoneCredit: Pantone

Pantone recently announced radiant orchid as the 2014 color of the year. This charming purple hue captivates a “harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones” while “emanating great joy, love and health”.

I always look forward to this report which covers the season’s most important color trends. This purpley shade covered the runways at NYFW and I expect to see it on our favorite red carpet starlets as well as on clothing and accessories throughout the year.

Featured below is a quick look at several spring shoe styles I’ve found in variations of this hue. I love the graphic patterns used on the Roger Vivier & Nicholas Kirkwood styles combined with a spicy cayenne red. Manolo Blahnik opted for a warmer two-tone design mixing byzantium with fandango.

I’m a very gotta-have-it-now express shipping kind of shoe buyer so when I know a style won’t be on my feet until February, March or April I usually wait. A pre-order makes sense when I find that absolutely-in-love (over-the-fence, World Series kind of stuff) shoe that I know is a rare or coveted style only carried at a few retailers.

I receive emails daily from readers trying to find their must-have shoe when unfortunately their size sold out. Pre-ordering is a good way to snag your favorite next season shoe – especially if your size is always sold out or you take a half size like me!

My favorite pre-order potentials for spring are featured below. I also added a few styles from new Pre-Fall 2014 collections which are currently available for a limited time at the pre-order hub, Moda Operandi.

Tabitha Simmons Josephina strappy snakeskin pump with a 110mm heel

Charlotte Olympia Monroe unzipped black suede pump with a fishnet covered heel – this one is actually a Pre-Fall 2014 design

Alexander Wang Marlene leather and suede lace-up sandals with super long suede laces and 110mm heel

Nicholas Kirkwood Mexican blue needle embroidered pump with a red leather covered 100mm heel – this is a Pre-Fall 2014 design

When warmer climates arrive, the boots get stored away and cheery sandals (strappier the better) come out to play. I love a classic court shoe but the brighter & more playful spring shoes are always my favorites.’s Spring 2014 Accessories Index was just released and market director Marina Larroudé reveals the news on shoes spotlighting 10 standout styles. Her selections focus on several upcoming footwear trends including mules, sporty sandals and kitten-heel pumps.

I’ve named Isabel Marant’s latest creation the moccanstock since they’re a hybrid of a moccasin combined with a Birkenstock-style footbed. Gianvito Rossi solidified the spotlight again this season with his super sexy mules – which he also designed for Altuzarra.

Sporty shoes covered the runways at Milan Fashion Week and the most obvious example of this trend is Prada’s athletic-inspired heels featuring thick rubber bumpers. My favorite choice from Larroudé’s list is Tabitha Simmons super strappy pump in white leather; I imagine these look amazing on the foot.

My top picks:
As usual, my selections are all about the heels and this season they’re especially different from the editor’s picks. I can never pass up a hot shoe! There were so many styles pulling at my heartstrings, it was difficult narrowing this down to 10.

Gianvito Rossi is the “master of the mule” and I love the mirrored leather combined with black python. Fendi’s silicone sandals are architecturally amazing and check out the industrial caged “double heels”. I adore Charlotte Olympia’s “Overboard” sea-inspired collection and yes, those are upside down mermaid heels! Diego Dolcini’s strappy sandal is a signature style redesigned in a trendy violet tulip neoprene and captivating shade of indigo.
